History

The Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D, introduced in 1943, became one of the most iconic and widely used armored personnel carriers in World War II. Serving as a key component of the German Wehrmacht's mechanized infantry forces, the Ausf. D was the final and most streamlined version of the Sd.Kfz. 251 series. Designed for production efficiency, it featured a simplified design with flat, sloping armor plates and fewer components, enabling quicker manufacturing without compromising battlefield effectiveness.

The vehicle was powered by a Maybach HL 42 TRKM 6-cylinder engine, producing 100 horsepower, which allowed it to reach a top speed of 52 km/h (32 mph) on roads. Its tracked rear wheels and steerable front wheels provided excellent off-road mobility. The Ausf. D variant could transport up to 10 fully equipped troops and a two-man crew, with armor ranging from 6 to 15 mm, offering protection against small arms fire and shell fragments. Armed with a 7.92 mm MG34 or MG42 machine gun, the Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D could provide suppressive fire to support dismounted infantry.

Poorly designed and it's not sturdy

The building kit for this model sucks. While not as expensive as other SD.KFZ Kits, it is not worth it. The instructions are confusing on some points and the kit is not sturdy at all. The worst part of the kit are the wheels and the tracks. The tracks keep coming off when you move the build a little and when you try to put it back on it destroys the kit. The first wheel of the tracks keeps coming off when putting them on and the wheels it self are poorly designed. Do not buy this kit. If you can buy from panzerbrickalabs which i regret not doing
