History
The Type 95 Ha-Go was the most widely produced Japanesetank of World War II and served as the primary light tank of the Imperial Japanese Army. Introduced in 1935, it was designed for mobility, reliability, and operations across a variety of terrains, including the jungles and islands of the Pacific. Its lightweight construction and air-cooled dieselengine made it well suited for long-distance operations and reduced the risk of fire compared to gasoline-poweredvehicles.
Armed with a 37 mm main gun and two machine guns, the Ha-Go proved effective during the early stages of the war against lightly armored opponents. The tank participated in campaigns across China, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific, becoming a familiar sight wherever Japanese forcesoperated.
As the war progressed, advances in Allied armor and anti-tank weapons reduced the Ha-Go's battlefield effectiveness. Nevertheless, its reliability, simplicity, and widespread usemade it one of the most significant armored vehicles in Japanese military history and an important example of interwar tank design.
